Grilling Tri-Tip
How to grill tri tip
Normally we do the Tri-Tip here at the Ranch on a Charcoal grill, but you can also do this on your gas or pellet grill.
- Remove the meat from the fridge 30 minutes before you plan to cook it. Preheat your grill to high heat.
- Place the roast on a plate and discard the marinade (or save it to add to a pan sauce if you plan to make one). Grease the grill (or brush oil directly on the meat).
- Start with indirect heat - Grill over indirect heat at around 225°F until the internal temperature reaches 115°F.
- Sear the roast over high heat Then, sear over direct heat until it reaches 130-135°F for medium-rare doneness. For about 2-3 minutes, until it is nicely browned. Flip over (grease again if necessary) and sear the other side for 2-3 minutes. Keep the lid shut as much as you can.
- Remove the roast from the grill, and place on a rimmed serving platter. Cover well with foil and let rest for 10-15 minutes.
- Slice against the grain and serve. The tri tip is separated in muscle growth in two different directions. When slicing the Tri-Tip after cooking, slice against the grain in thin slices on both parts.
- ENJOY!
